We're looking for a Founding AI Engineer (m/f/x) to join COCO as a founding team member.‍

At COCO, we're building a new kind of image AI. One that doesn't ask what someone looks like, but what they feel, what they're doing and where they are. No prompting for race, gender or body types.

This isn’t checkbox diversity. It’s representation by design.

Built for publishers, educators and creative teams: for anyone shaping how the world is seen. We have a working product, a clear roadmap and a Diversity Advisory Board ready to put it to the test. Now we're looking for someone who builds the engine with us.

No C-level title, but a real seat at the table: you'll be part of the very first steps and grow with COCO. Full-time, part-time or freelance to start, as long as you're part of the team, not on the sidelines.

What you'll build:
→ The generation pipeline behind our Inside-Out prompting: turning emotions, actions and surroundings into images, orchestrating models like FLUX and Gemini
→ Our Flag Bias loop and the human-in-the-loop tools our Advisory Board uses to review, annotate and improve outputs
→ Evaluation and bias scoring that makes representation quality measurable, not a gut feeling
→ The foundation for our next agents (starting with the Cultural Fit Agent) and our proprietary diversity data model
→ Production-grade infrastructure: reliable, secure, cost-aware, GDPR- and EU AI Act-ready
→ And you'll shape our tech decisions, and grow into technical leadership as the team grows

How you work matters to us:
→ You bring structure to chaos and clarity to early-stage messiness
→ You think in Vision Pizzas and build MVP slices
→ You explain technical trade-offs in plain language and welcome feedback as part of your process
→ You care deeply about edge cases, fairness, accessibility and scale

You might be a great fit if:
→ You have 5+ years of software engineering experience and have shipped GenAI features to real users
→ You've worked hands-on with image generation (diffusion models like FLUX or SDXL, fine-tuning/LoRAs, ComfyUI or model APIs), or you come from LLM tooling and want to go deep on images
→ You're fluent in Python and TypeScript and at home in modern web stacks (React, APIs, Postgres)
→ You know inference and infra from the inside: model APIs (Vertex AI, Replicate, fal) or self-hosted GPUs, Docker, CI/CD and cloud (GCP/AWS)
→ You use AI coding tools like Claude Code or Cursor as a force multiplier, not a crutch
→ And most importantly: you ship, not just prototype

Authenticity and honest self-assessment matter to us. Big egos don't fit our learner-centered culture. This role needs solid experience. But if you're an absolute nerd in one specific field (diffusion models, evaluation, MLOps …) and not sure you tick every box: reach out anyway.
